Scrap dealer, boy killed in blast

SRINAGAR: A scrap dealer and an onlooker teenaged boy were killed when a live shell went off while the dealer was trying to crush it in Handwara town of Kupwara district, about 100 km from here on Sunday.

Official sources said Mohamad Jammal Ganai, a IXth standard student and his brother were watching from a distance when the shell went off while the dealer was crushing it outside his shop in Lawoosa-Mawar in Handwara which he had picked up from the nearby forest area thinking it to be a scrap.

Ganai's brother was seriuosly injured in the incident and was admitted to a hospital.

The substance was probably an unexploded shell which the scrap dealer had found in the nearby forest area, the sources said.
