MUMBAI: Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar on Tuesday urged members to inform him about private hospitals recovering medical bills from relatives of those injured in the July 11 blasts. His intervention came during a debate on the issue raised by Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam.

Kadam noted that after the blasts the government had announced that it would foot medical expenses and treatment costs of all the injured.

But relatives of many of the admitted were running from pillar to post to pay the medical bills, he claimed.

The Speaker directed the government to ensure reimbursement of medical bills.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Harshavardhan Patil said the state chief secretary had already been told to ensure that the bills were reimbursed.

He said an officer would be appointed by the government to look into the matter.
