NEW DELHI: With the Mumbai blasts and grenade attacks in Srinagar weighing heavily, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will make a strong pitch at the G-8 Summit for an "unambiguous, united international response" to stamp out global terrorism.

"For us, a very important area of focus is terrorism which has acquired a very topical dimension because of the recent tragic bombings in Mumbai and Srinagar," Foreign
Secretary Shyam Saran told a press conference here.

Singh, who leaves for St Petersburg on Sunday on a three-day visit for the G-8 Summit, would also seek to leverage mounting international outrage to compel Pakistan to honour its commitment to end terrorism and violence directed against India.

"Certainly, our expectation would be that the G-8 will come out with a very strong statement on terrorism," he said adding that there was a "certain urgency and need for an unambiguous, united international response" to terrorism.

Leaders from the G-8 countries comprising the US, Japan, Germany, Britain, Italy, France, Russia and Canada have strongly condemned the serial blasts in Mumbai suburban trains hat left 200 dead and over 700 injured.

Singh warned that terrorists were trying to spread their tentacles across the country and that terror modules were "instigated, inspired and supported" by elements across the border without which they could not act with such devastating effect.

The Prime Minister will have meetings with US President George W Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders on Monday.
