Various measures taken by the Delhi police to prevent suicides from the now infamous suicide centre of the capital paid off on Friday when the alert cops prevented two suicide aspirants from jumping off the Janakpuri towers in West Delhi.

Rekha, a 19-year-old girl from Allahabad was nabbed by the police when she was trying to enter one of the towers. A suicide note was recovered from her which stated that she wanted to die as the man she loved had not reciprocated her feelings. In another incident the same day, a 24-year-old man was held by the cops before he attempted the fatal jump. The man apprehended was depressed as he was not able to pay for the treatment of his mother's illness.

The Janakpuri district centre with its nine high-rises have become a suicide point for Delhiites driven to brink. Last one month has seen two deaths and one attempted suicide. The Delhi police finally waking up to the threat of Janakpuri district centre turning into a veritable suicide point of the capital deployed police personnel in considerable number to prevent such deaths. “We have written to the builder to cover the balconies of all the towers with iron grills so that no one is able to jump,” said Robin Hibu, DCP West Delhi.
