AHMEDABAD: Jakia Jaffari, widow of former Congress MP from Ahmedabad Ehsaan Jaffari who was burnt alive in his home at Gulbarg Society on February 28, 2002, has lodged an FIR with Gandhinagar police listing 63 persons including Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Praveen Togadiya and DGP PC Pande for aiding and abetting the accused in the post-Godhra mass carnage.

Moving the FIR under section 154 of the CrPC Act, she has mailed the same by a registered post to the Gandhinagar police. She said that since even after four years of the incident the state government has failed to act against the accused, she has been forced to take this step. Drawing on the evidence submitted before the Nanavati-Shah Commission, she has moved the FIR, she added.

"Alleged to be the architect of a criminal conspiracy to subvert constitutional governance and the rule of law, he (Modi) unleashed, unlawful and illegal practices during the mass carnage and thereafter protected the accused who played direct as well as indirect role and abetted the commission of the crime," she said.

The FIR then accused the state govt of "deliberate and intentional failure" in protecting the life and property of innocent denizens" through a sinister criminal conspiracy amongst the accused."
