After the state government, Shiv Sena has now announced compensation for the two policemen burnt to death in Bhiwandi on Wednesday.

The party, during a meeting at Matoshri on Thursday, decided to donate Rs1 lakh to each of the families of the policemen.

Head Constable Ramesh Jagtap and police constable BS Gangurde were allegedly killed by an agitating mob near Milan Hotel in Bhiwandi while patrolling the area.

The incident followed the day’s rioting and subsequent police firing, which killed two men.

Shiv Sena’s Thane district unit chief Eknath Shinde, MLA, said, “The money will be handed over to family members when they return to the city

after the funeral of the policemen in their native places.”

Thane Mayor Rajan Vichare said, “Bal Thackeray has condemned the brutal killing of the policemen. Uddhav will visit the family members.”

Meanwhile, Thane police chief D Sivanandhan said that the situation in Bhiwandi was under control. The Friday Namaaz was offered peacefully, he said.
