NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the July 5 recommendation of AIIMS' apex body to terminate the services of its Director P Venugopal.
Justice Anil Kumar issued notices to the Centre, AIIMS, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and the Election Commission asking them to file their replies within two weeks on the petition filed by Venugopal challenging the recommendation of the apex body.
Venugopal has also sought disqualification of Union Health Minister A Ramadoss on the ground that he was holding an office of profit as President of the premier institute.
Justice Kumar granted the interim stay after a marathon three-hour argument advanced by Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian for the Centre and Senior counsel Arun Jaitley on behalf of Venugopal.
The interim order of the stay would operate till August 17 when the court would further hear the matter.
Centre to move SC: Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said "all legal course of action" including an appeal in the Supreme Court will be taken against the stay on the removal of AIIMS Director P Venugopal.
"When we say, we will be taking legal course of action that includes everything. We will be discussing with the Attorney General," he told reporters when asked whether an appeal would be filed in the Supreme Court.
Asked whether the High Court decision was a setback to him, he said: "Where is the question of setback? It is not a personal agenda of Anbumani Ramadoss and Dr Venugopal. Media has created this."
"We have to do some administrative changes. It is not an individual decision. It is a collective decision by the institute body," he said.
