Tirkey, Harpal among probables for World Cup training camp

Ace mid-fielder Ignace Tirkey and defender Harpal Singh figure in the list of 24-probables shortlisted for the 16-day training camp in preparation of the World Cup to be held in Monchengladbach, Germany from September 6 to 17.

NEW DELHI: Ace mid-fielder Ignace Tirkey and defender Harpal Singh figure in the list of 24-probables shortlisted for the 16-day training camp in preparation of the World Cup to be held in Monchengladbach, Germany from September 6 to 17.

The Coaching camp will be held at SAI Centre, Bangalore from Friday till July 23.

After a transaction period of six days, the turf practice will commence at Chennai from August 1 onwards till departure of the team.

All the 18 members of squad, which won a Bronze medal in the Azlan Shah tournament at Kuala Lumpur last month found a place in the list.

Ignace, who led India in the series against Pakistan in the absence of Dilip Tirkey, was not considered for the Azlan Shah tournament because of injury, while Harpal Singh is coming back after a long lay off due to chicken pox which he had just before the start of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Apart from Ignace and Harpal, four other players who were not part of the Azlan Shah squad but have been called for the training camp are Goal keeper PR Sreejesh, mid-fielder Nitin Kumar, forwards Veeraswamy Raja and Roshan Minz.

Sreejesh, Raja and Nitin have represented the country in the Junior World Cup. Raja has also played in the Champions Trophy held in Chennai.

Goal keepers: Adrian D'Souza, Bharat Chetri, PR Sreejesh.
Full backs: Dilip Tirkey, Sandeep Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh, Harpal Singh.
Mid-fielders: V S Vinaya, Vikram Pillay, Viren Rasquinha, Bimal Lakra, Nitin Kumar, Ignace Tirkey, Prabodh Tirkey, Ajmer Singh.
Forwards: Arjun Halappa, Hari Prasad, Tejbir Singh, Tushar Khandekar, Shivendra. Singh, Rajpal Singh, Gagan Ajit Singh, V Raja, Roshan Minz.
Chief Coach: Vasudevan Baskaran.
Coach: Harendra Singh.
