PMET paper leaked; five arrested

CHANDIGARH: Five persons were arrested from an apartment in Rohini area of New Delhi on Sunday in connection with the leakage of the Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET) papers and remanded to police custody by a local court even as the examination was held at over 40 centres in the city amidst protests by guardians of candidates.

The five, believed to be members of an inter-state gang, were arrested by a team of Chandigarh police, Inspector Jagbir Singh told reporters here.

They were identified as Jitender Kumar, coordinator for admissions in colleges in Delhi, Anil Behlia, a medical practitioner from Lucknow, Devinder Singh from Sirhind in Punjab, Kumar Ranjeet Singh from Nalanda in Bihar and share broker Rajender Kumar, he said.

Ten other people rounded up alongwith the five were released later as they were examination candidates and minors.

The accused used to charge between Rs 15 to Rs 18 lakh from the candidates to provide them the paper before the exam, the inspector told reporters.

Meanwhile, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences authorities here said the test was smoothly conducted as per schedule at 40 centres in the city.
