BEIJING: China and Russia, who are opposing sanctions on Iran, on Monday urged all parties to show flexibility and continue constructive talks on Tehran's nuclear issue.

The call was made after Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo discussed the Iran nuclear issue with his visiting Russian counterpart S Kislyak on Monday.

They said China and Russia will continue their efforts to resolve the Iran nuclear issue in a peaceful way through diplomatic negotiations.

Both sides also agreed to continue consultations on the Iran nuclear issue and called on all parties concerned to play a constructive role and show flexibility in order to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

They exchanged views on the international issues of common concern, Xinhua news agency reported.

A package of incentives raised by China, Russia, the United States and Europe has provided a new opportunity for the settlement of the issue. However, Iran has said that it will respond to the new package in mid-August.

China had urged Iran to respond to the new package soon so as to resume negotiations.
