CBI conducts nationwide searches in Navy war room leak case

Searches were being conducted in four cities at 17 premises, including that of businessman Abhishek Verma in the national capital.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday conducted searches at 17 places in four cities including that of businessman Abhishek Verma here in connection with the Navy war room leak case.

CBI sources said the searches were being carried out in connection with the larger conspiracy in the war room leak case.

The searches were being carried out at 17 places in Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Vishakhapatnam.  In Delhi, searches were conducted at 13 places, two premises in Kolkata and one each in Bhubaneswar and Vishakapattinam.

The CBI was searching premises of 14 Navy and Army officers besides that of Verma and one Sushil, a chartered accountant.

In Kolkata, the searches were conducted at the residential premises of Commodore A K Patnaik, Naval Officer in-charge of Bengal Area and Commodore P K Dhiman.

 

Searches were being carried out Patnaik's residence at Hastings Road area and Dhiman's residence at Belvedre road in Alipore, agency sources said.

The raids were being carried out at residences of senior Naval officers including two commanders in the national capital.

 

The CBI alleged that Parasar, a former Naval Commander, had gifted these people with computers, pen drives and mobile phones.

CBI had registered a case on March 20 and had conducted nationwide raids on April 6 besides arresting Kulbhushan Parasar, a former Navy Commander.

Ravi Shankaran, a former Navy officer and a kin of Naval Chief Admiral Arun Prakash, has already been declared a proclaimed offender in this case.

He is alleged to be one of the main accused in this case and is at present believed to be in London.

The Navy war room leak case was first reported by DNA in July last year. The Navy had dismissed three officers including one of the directors of naval operations for passing on sensitive information to retired naval officers, who were middlemen for various arms firms.
