Investigations into alleged underworld links of Jet chief are underway and intelligence agencies aren't ready to give him a clean chit.
NEW DELHI: Investigations into the alleged financial sources and underworld links of Jet Airways chief Naresh Goyal are still underway and Indian intelligence agencies are yet not ready to give him a clean chit. And that would further delay Jet’s plans to fly to the US.
However, the agencies have not raised any serious objections to him joining the Air Sahara board as a director, authoritative sources told DNA Money, while insisting that the investigations against Goyal was “still open” and a “separate issue.”
And because investigations against Jet and Goyal are still continuing, the Ministry of External Affairs has yet not replied to official queries from the US State Department regarding Jet’s underworld links.
The US authorities had forwarded detailed questionnaire to New Delhi last year after another Jet Airways, based in Maryland, kicked up a row saying India’s Jet Airways was funded by the underworld.
Based on the complaints, the US authorities refused to permit Jet Airways to fly to Newark via Brussels as was announced last June. Jet Airways is still awaiting clearance.
Authoritative sources in the security establishment told DNA Money that the Indian agencies are still investigating funding patterns of Jet Airways, suspected contacts of Naresh Goyal and other details of India’s biggest private airlines.
Intelligence agencies investigating Goyal have not put up any strong opposition to the Jet chief getting clearance for him to join the Sahara board because they have decided to keep the two issues separate.
“Investigations into the company and against Goyal are continuing and we will pursue,” sources insisted.
