No threat to Karnataka govt: BJP

BANGALORE: Noting that there was no threat to its government with JD(S) in Karnataka, BJP on Monday proposed a three-point formula to its coalition partner on the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, an issue that had brought relations between the two under strain.

BJP made it clear the project should not be scrapped, excess land should be handed back to farmers and Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, executors of the project, should take up social responsibility, including building houses, for the people who had lost their lands.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the BJP  Legislature party here this morning, party Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said the party would convey its stand to JD(S).

"We are sure that they will appreciate our view...In principle, we want the project", he said.

Excess land, he said, should be identified to be given back to farmers. And thirdly, since NICE was expected to make a "windfall", they should undertake social responsibility like providing houses to the affected and taking up community services.

Asked if the crisis had blown over, Naidu maintained that there was no crisis and "there is no question of anything happening to the government on this (issue). We are working together".

BJP, he said, had taken note of the fact that the project was already underway and that there was a Supreme Court judgement on it.
