A software engineer bound for Frankfurt was detained at the Chennai airport on Monday morning after two live bullets were found in his hand baggage, police said.

CHENNAI: A software engineer bound for Frankfurt was detained at the Chennai airport on Monday morning after two live bullets were found in his hand baggage, police said.

Bullets were found during scanning of the baggage of the passenger and he was immediately detained for questioning, police and airport sources said.

The man was bound for Frankfurt by a Lufthansa airlines flight, they said.

Police said that during questioning, the passenger told them that the bullets did not belong to him and that he was not aware of how the bullets had found its way into his baggage, which had been left unattended for some time.
