Sehwag fined for excessive appealing

ST JOHN'S (Antigua): Virender Sehwag was on Wednesday fined 20 per cent of his match fee for excessive appealing in the first Test against West Indies here.
 
The opener had pleaded guilty in a hearing conducted by match referee Jeff Crowe after the drawn match, which concluded here on Wednesday.
 
''Sehwag was found to have breached 1.5 of the ICC Code that relates to 'the practice of celebrating a dismissal before the decision has been given','' the ICC said here.
 
On-field officials Asad Rauf and Simon Taufel and third umpire Billy Doctrove brought the charges against Sehwag at the hearing, which was also attended by Team India coach Greg Chappell.
 
All level one breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
