KOLKATA: If you feel spas, exotic Ayurvedic treatments and hydrotheraphy are the prerogative of only the luxury segment in the hospitality industry, think again! Of late, the mid-market category has geared up to offer such value-added services, targeted especially at MICE clientele.
The gamut of luxury segment services is not being offered — since this will obviously result in a mismatched branding. But essential treatment and fitness centres are being set up and services offered are 50% lower than luxury price points.
The meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) business is expanding rapidly in the mid-market range because corporates are essentially looking for cost-effective destinations and increasingly opting for properties that offer value for money. Employee motivation is another reason for growth. Better connectivity and decreased airfares are only adding to the volumes in this segment.
ITC’s Fortune brand of hotels, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts properties and the Sinclair group of hotels are only a few names in the mid-priced segment that have geared up to offer such value-added services.
Fortune Resorts, with average room rates stretching from Rs 1,500-Rs 6,000, is selectively offering massage and specialised treatment facilities across its properties. There are partial treatment facilities available at Gurgaon Fortune Select Global while Fortune Hotel, Calicut, and Fortune Hotel South Park in Thiruvananthapuram offer Kerala-style massage centres. At Calicut, there are facilities for a gym, sauna, Jacuzzi and ayurvedic massages . At Darjeeling, a fitness centre will soon be set up.
“This is a trickle-down effect from the luxury segment,” said sources in Fortune Park, the wholly-owned by ITC Ltd.
