NEW DELHI: Late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan's son Rahul Mahajan's toxicology report revealed there was no cocaine in his blood samples, the Apollo Hospital authorities said on Saturday.

Traces of poison have been found in the body of Pramod Mahajan's secretary Vivek Moitra, sources at AIIMS Hospital, where the autopsy was conducted, said.

"There were traces of poison and we have sent the viscera to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory to determine the poison," they said.

Moitra died early on Friday after suspected poisoning, while Rahul Mahajan was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition.

Earlier, Rahul Mahajan was taken off ventilator support as he showed signs of improvement.

"The condition of Rahul Mahajan, who was admitted on Friday, gradually improved over the last 12 hours. After due assessment of his clinical status and investigation, our team of doctors found his vital parameters improving," a medical bulletin released by the hospital said.

Rahul Mahajan has been weaned off the ventilator on Saturday morning and is under observation in the ICU.

Doctors suspected poisoning but the police said it could have been caused by a drug overdose at a late night party at the 7, Safdarjung Road residence allotted to the late BJP leader. Bottles of champagne and two packets containing a white powder -- suspected to be cocaine -- were recovered from the house.

Also at the party were his father's secretary Vivek Moitra and four guests. Moitra was brought dead to the hospital. Sources said it was a heady mix of cocaine and champagne that Rahul Mahajan and Moitra had consumed.

Three of the guests, identified as Rahul, Trishay and Karan (all in their early 20s), surrendered before the Mandir Marg police late on Friday. Sahil (the fourth guest and a friend of Moitra's from Mumbai) was absconding.

The trio's lawyer, Ranbir Singh Kundu, told reporters Sahil had asked them to accompany him to a party at "a VIP's place". They reached Rahul Mahajan's place around 11 pm on Thursday. Moitra, they said, demanded that they get cocaine.

The four visitors left the house around 11.45 pm to get the drug, but Rahul opted out on the way, the lawyer claimed. The police said servants at the house confirmed that the guests had left the house for some time.

Three of them returned with cocaine around 12.30 am, after which Rahul Mahajan and Moitra snorted it, they said. The lawyer said the three were not drug peddlers but had only fetched it after Moitra demanded it.

A news channel said one of the guests claimed that Rahul Mahajan used a Rs 500 note to snort the cocaine.

Around 3 am, one of the visitors rushed out of the drawing room to inform the servants that Rahul Mahajan and Moitra were unconscious. The servants rushed the two to the hospital.
