NEW DELHI: The Nitish Katara murder case took a new turn on Sunday when a news channel aired a confessional statement made by Vikas Yadav, the main accused in the case. In his confession statement before the police in this case, Yadav had admitted that he had first hit Katara with a hammer on his head and later burnt his body, the news channel claimed.

Yadav, son of former Rajya Sabha MP DP Yadav, is also one of the accused in the murder of model Jessica Lall. Katara was murdered in February 2001. The bone of contention between the two was the ongoing love affair between Katara and Bharti, sister of Yadav.

“The affair brought bad name to the family,” Yadav confessed in the statement. The murder took place five years ago and an investigating officer recorded the statement soon after the crime. The report said that the statement could not be used as evidence in the court as no magistrate was present when it was made.
