The Bhaskar group’s first FM radio station, My FM 106, will start operations on Sunday in Jaipur, marking the media powerhouse’s entry into the radio broadcasting business.

The group, through its fully owned subsidiary, Synergy Media Entertainment, had recently won 17 licences for operating FM stations in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Punjab. Jaipur is the first stop in the rollout of this radio bouquet.

My FM will be on air round the clock and will reach an audience of 30 lakh people while covering a radius of 50km in and around Jaipur. The 80-foot high radio transmission tower built for this will be the tallest of such constructions in Jaipur.

A standout feature of My FM will be its radio jockeys. “Our team of radio jockeys is a unique mix of talent, with the quality to offer the best kind of entertainment,” says Saurabh Bhranar, who heads national programming at the station, “They are all quite experienced when it comes to building a rapport with listeners and winning a loyal audience.”

Adds Sanjeev Kotnala, senior general manager, brand communications, Dainik Bhaskar, “In cities like Jaipur, Indore and Ahmedabad, where cable and satellite TV penetration is not high, radio will emerge as a popular support medium.”

The Bhaskar group owns and operates some of India’s bestselling print publications, including Dainik Bhaskar, Divya Bhaskar and Aha Zindagi, and has a readership base of 2.25 crore. The group also has cable television operations in five cities and is looking to strengthen  and expand its base by venturing into different media, with the stated goal of building a “360 degree” relationship with its audience.
