BANGALORE: Rallying estranged family members back into the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), N Chandrababu Naidu is seeking to resurrect the magic of the late N T Rama Rao ahead of the local body elections next month.

If it was brother Ramamurthy Naidu who was welcomed back into the party last month, it is now brother-in-law Nandamuri Harikrishna's turn. Harikrishna, a Tollywood hero, has made peace with the TDP president.

The homecoming of various family members is significant considering it comes days ahead of the TDP Mahanadu, the annual meet of the party scheduled to be held on Sunday, and the local body elections. Harikrishna's return to TDP ends almost a decade's estrangement between the two. Harikrishna had floated the Anna TDP to win votes using NTR's name in the 1999 elections but only to receive a drubbing at the hustings.

Almost all members of the family except NTR's elder son-in-law D Venkateswara Rao are back in the TDP camp after Naidu's efforts to make peace. NTR's actor son Balakrishna, is also likely to return to his brother-in-law's fold on the occasion apart from two other brothers Jayakrishna and Sai Krishna who are likely to join alongwith brother-in-law.

The only relative left out in the cold would be Daggubati Venkateswar Rao, a sworn enemy of Naidu, who will be missing at the family reunion as wife D Purandareswari is now a congress MP and a minister in the UPA government. According to party members, a major draw will be the actor son of Harikrishna, known popularly as the NTR junior and a spitting image of the thespian. "The regrouping within the TDP and NTR's family are designed to give the party a new facelift to attract youth and women," Chandrababu Naidu said.
