Girls outperform boys in CBSE class X results

A total of 77.16 per cent students passed the annual CBSE Class X examinations, 2.56 per cent higher than the previous year, with girls outperforming boys for the third consecutive year.

NEW DELHI: A total of 77.16 per cent students passed the annual CBSE Class X examinations, 2.56 per cent higher than the previous year, with girls outperforming boys for the third consecutive year.
    
Girls continued their success story as they recorded a pass rate of 77.70 per cent while boys had a pass percentage of 76.77 per cent, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly told reporters here, while announcing the Class X results.
 
Out of the 6,32,014 students, including 3,66,694 boys and 2,65,320 girls, appearing for the examination, 4,87,650 students, including 2,81,505 boys and 1,02,146 girls passed.
    
The pass rate of girls is 77.70 per cent against 76.77 by boys, Ganguly said.
 
"Girls have been performing better than boys for three years. This year too they have kept their record intact," he said.
 
As many as 21,002 students, including 10,617 boys and 10,385 girls have secured more than 90 per cent marks. Chennai region has the highest number of 6028 students with more 60 per cent marks followed by Allahabad (5154) and Delhi (4283).
 
Similarly, about 1677 students have scored over 95 per cent marks, including 888 girls and 789 boys. The highest number of 559 such students belong to Chennai region while 353 students from Delhi figure in the list, Ganguly said.
        
Chennai has fared better than other five regions with a pass rate of 89 per cent. Ajmer follows with 88 per cent pass rate while Delhi figures at the 5th slot with a pass rate of 68.11 per cent.
    
Ganguly said that the exam was conducted at 2,474 centres.
 
The overall result was better than last year with the pass rate increasing by 2.56 per cent.
 
About 2.09 lakh students from Delhi region had appeared the exam of whom 68.11 per cent students passed, which marks a rise of seven per cent in pass rate than last year.
 
Government schools in Delhi have achieved 59.73 per cent pass rate against 48 per cent last year. The overall pass rate of government schools remains at 54 per cent, which is close to 10 per cent more than last year Ganguly said.
 
The students of Navodaya Vidyalayas have also fared well in the exam this year as the pass rate stands at 91 per cent.
 
Kendriya Vidyalayas have got over 90 per cent pass rate as well.
 
Region wise, Guwahati recorded poor results with a 49.12 per cent pass rate. The pass rate of Chandigarh and Allahabad regions are 82 per cent and 80 per cent respectively.
 
Ganguly said foreign students from 106 schools had appeared for the test and about 93 per cent of them passed.
 
About 950 physically handicapped students had appeared for the test of whom 13 students secured more than 90 per cent. R Govinda, a physically challenged student from Narayan Central School in Kollamin, Kerala, scored more than 95 per
cent, he said.
 
The pass rate of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe students stands at 66 per cent and 47 per cent respectively.
