MUMBAI: With the monsoon just days away, Municipal Commissioner Johny Joseph said on Friday that the BMC is in control. “We have left no stone unturned in taking preventive measures,” he told a panel discussion at the DNA office. “If any emergency arises, we will react in the minimum possible time.”

The discussion was organised to find out the city’s rain-readiness quotient. Besides Joseph, three additional commissioners were part of the discussion. They were grilled over two hours about the BMC’s efforts to guard against a 26/7 repeat.

Joseph said the focus was on the suburbs, where most of the flooding took place: “We have immediate deadlines, but all works are undertaken with a three-year time frame. Citizens must bear with us for the inconvenience. Today, the Mithi is flowing like a river. Low-lying areas will be safe.”

He also promised better dissemination of information in case of flooding.
