With 5,412 students scoring in the 90 per cent and above margin in the class XII CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) examinations, students have proved that being average isn’t the norm anymore. CBSE results were announced on Tuesday.

The results are also an indication that college cut-offs for admission to graduate courses is going to soar this year. As many as 812 students scored 100 per cent in mathematics and Delhi alone had 1,906 students who scored above 90 per cent.

“As against last year’s 255, this year the results in math indicates that the number of students with 100 per cent marks has gone up three-fold,” said CBSE chairperson Ashok Ganguly.

In the Capital, schools like DPS RK Puram reported 30 per cent students who secured marks above 90 per cent and Amity international with 25 per cent students above 90 per cent. As has been the trend in the past, girls beat boys in their overall performance for a record 15th year.

The overall pass percentage this year has been 79.55, in which 84.4 per cent girls came out with flying colours as against 75.93 per cent, the pass percentage of boys.  “We have seen a gap of 8.5 per cent in favour of the girls, the highest so far,” added Ganguly

A total of 4,54,045 students — 2,63,286 boys and 1,90,759 girls had appeared for the Class XII examinations in March this year. The results for all the regions, including Delhi, Ajmer, Chennai, Guwahati, Panchkula and Allahabad, were announced together.

What is also noteworthy is that 939 physically handicapped students passed the exams with three of them getting above 90 per cent.
