MCD halts completely demolition drive

"The MCD has stopped the demolition and sealing drive against illegal structures after the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2006 came into force," an MCD spokesman said here.

NEW DELHI: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)  on Saturday announced a complete halt to the ongoing demolition and sealing drive against illegal structures in the national capital after the legislation providing one-year moratorium came into force.

"The MCD has stopped the demolition and sealing drive against illegal structures after the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2006 came into force," an MCD spokesman said here.

The demolition drive agianst illegal structures was launched in December last year on the orders of the Delhi High Court, while the sealing of commercial establishments operating in residential areas were directed to be sealed by the Supreme Court.

Centre on Saturday notified the Bill putting an immediate halt to the demolition and sealing drive against illegal structures in the capital for a period of one year after it received assent from President A P J Abdul Kalam.
