MUMBAI: It was a day of contrast for the little-knowns at the Xtra Premium National Series Tennis championship on Friday. At the Practennis courts, Sonia Dayal continued her magic run in the tournament making it to the final in the girls’ under-16, while Jenai Billimoria perished without a fight in the girls under-14 and u-16. It was Sonia who dealt the blow on Jenai with a clean slate. Sonia blanked Jenai Billimoria without conceding a game (6-0 6-0) in the under 16 semi-finals. Earlier, in the under-14 section, Jenai was shown the door by Nupur Kaul with a 6-2 6-0.

The boys’ under-16 final will be between Karun Uday of Delhi and Debendra Das of Maharashtra. Uday prevailed over Bombay Gymkhana winner Gauran Walia 6-2 6-1. In the other semi-final, Debendra upset No. 7 Ankit Sachdeva of Delhi 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7-2) in the longest encounter of the day. In boys’ under-14 group, No. 3 Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu, the highest surviving seed, will face No. 8 Chetan Pandit of Andhra Pradesh in the final, following contrasting semi-final wins. Mayur beat Practennis lad and No. 7 Shahbaz Khan in three hard-fought sets, while Pandit surprised No. 4 seed SV Abhishek of Andhra Pradesh 6-2 6-2.
