SHILLONG: Satellite images of the country's defence installation displayed on Google Earth website do not pose a threat, Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi said here on Friday.

"Google is not a threat to the Indian Air Force. Showing defence establishments is not a big deal. I can also see others' (security set-up using the same technology). We live in a transparent world," he told reporters here.

Google Earth had began displaying the images only recently "but I have been seeing them for 20 years," Tyagi said.

On the intrusion into Indian airspace by aircraft from neighbouring countries, especially in the northeast and Jammu and Kashmir, he said the government and the IAF consistently monitored such activities and were aware of them.

He said high-level air intrusions were detected by radar, while low-level ones were not. "No country has radar covering every inch of the sky," Tyagi said.
