Senior police officers are aware of the existence of Lashkar “sleeper terror modules” in parts of the state. They say that such modules get help from organisations like the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

“SIMI has been found to aid Lashkar operatives get a foothold in large parts of the state, especially Marathwada and Khandesh,” said an officer of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).

ATS officers said Sherif Sabbir Ahmed, a doctor, may be able to throw light on the whereabouts of Jainuddin Ansari — believed to be the mastermind behind the movement of arms and weapons consignments.
