Doctors to stage protest today

MUMBAI: Interns from four top government medical colleges in the city as also private ones will go on strike today to protest against the lathicharge on students outside the Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
 
Also, more than 500 doctors from all branches of the Indian Medical Association in Mumbai will stage a dharna at Azad Maidan from 2pm. “If our demands are not met by afternoon, we will declare a strike,” said IMA (Mumbai chapter) president Dr Sunita Kshirsagar.
 
The IMA has demanded the ouster of police chief AN Roy. “If police can lathi-charge doctors in broad daylight in front of television cameras without any provocation, what would the state of the common man be?” said Dr JG Lalmalani, an IMA spokesperson.
