SRINAGAR: Former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani on Sunday said the massacre of 32 Hindus in Doda and Basantgarh was part of militants’ agenda of ethnic cleansing. He also announced that the BJP would forcefully raise the issue in parliament as the UPA government was going soft on terrorism.

“The massacre of innocent people are not ordinary incidents but a part of militants’ larger plan of ethnic cleansing of Hindus in the state. They adopted the same tactics in Kashmir in 1990 and now they are targeting Hindus in the Jammu region. Their plan is to trigger migration of Hindus from Doda and Udhampur in Jammu similar to the Pandit exodus from Valley,” Advani told media persons after winding up his tour of Doda and Batote in Jammu region.

He said the BJP would raise this issue in parliament and also launch a nationwide agitation against the killing. “This is a serious issue and we will strongly raise the issue in parliament,” he said.

Accusing the Center of going soft on terrorism, he said first thing after assuming power, the UPA government repealed POTA which was enacted to deal with the terrorism. “The UPA government’s polices are very weak towards terrorism.

When they came to power they first repealed the POTA which was enacted to deal effectively with terrorism,” he said.

Advani asked Centre to seek assurances from Pakistan for stopping cross border terrorism. “Cross border terrorism should end. The UPA government should ask Pakistan in unambiguous terms to stop cross border terrorism,” he said.

Asked whether NDA government raised this issue with Pakistan when they entered into talks, Advani said during SAARC summit, President Pervez Musharraf gave assurances that their soil would not be used for terrorism.

“We raised this issue forcefully with Pakistan and President Musharraf said openly that they will not allow their soil to be used for terrorism,” he said. Earlier Advani visited the GMC hospital in Jammu and met the injured in the Doda incident.

He later visited the residence of BJP activist Munshi Ram, who was killed in Saturday’s grenade blast. Advani also visited Doda where BJP activists had staged a dharna.
