Khot to surrender on Monday

Suspended additional chief secretary Ashok Khot, who has been sentenced to one month’s simple imprisonment by the Supreme Court, will surrender before the police on Monday, Director General of Police Dr P S Pasricha said on Sunday.

MUMBAI: Suspended additional chief secretary Ashok Khot, who has been sentenced to one month’s simple imprisonment by the Supreme Court, will surrender before the police on Monday, Director General of Police Dr P S Pasricha said on Sunday.
 
Pasricha said Khot had spoken to him over the telephone and said he was out of Mumbai. He will surrender on his arrival, Pasricha said.
 
On what action police would take if he did not surrender, Parischa said, ''The law will take its own course.''
  
Surupsingh Naik and Khot were sentenced to one-month’s simple imprisonment for violation of the Supreme Court orders of 1997, which ordered closure of over 100 sawmills operating from the reserve forest area.
  
Naik was state forest minister and Khot was principal forest secretary in 2004, when they permitted six sawmills to operate from the reserve forest area in the state.
