CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday announced distribution of rice at Rs 2 per kg, waiver of farm loans and supply of eggs twice a week to children in noon-meal centres.

Karunanidhi made the announcement minutes after assuming office as chief minister at a function at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, marking the fulfillment of election promises.

The chief minister signed the orders at the venue itself amid loud cheers by the massive crowd, which turned up to witness the historic event of Karunanidhi assuming office as chief minister for the record fifth time.
