State DGP PS Pasricha has claimed that there was no political interference in the transfers of police officers this time.

“For the first time in the history of Maharashtra, transfers in the police department were made without any political interference. It must be put on record that neither the chief minister, the deputy chief minister nor any of their ministerial colleagues sent across any request in this connection,” Pasricha said on Wednesday.

His claim assumed significance against the backdrop of the recent transfers of 540 police inspectors.

Transfers had always been a major source for politicians keen on making money. There had been several instances of top cops alleging about posts being auctioned by fixing rates.
Pasricha said that norms had been fixed in advance for these transfers and none of them was violated to favour any individual.

“For the first time, we have used a computerised database for fixing norms,” he said.

‘Pujari transfer a  routine affair’

According to Pasricha, the transfer of Sudhakar Pujari, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Anti-corruption Bureau, who was investigating the Maharashtra Public Service Commission scam, was just a routine affair. "Since all others, who fitted into the norms, were transferred, Pujari too had to be transferred.

There was no other consideration. He had been with the ACB for a long time and was overdue for a transfer. For me the system is supreme, not individuals.”

HC asks state to file reply in MPSC case
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the state government to file a reply on Friday to an application challenging the transfer of Sudhakar Pujari, chief investigating officer of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) scam. Pujari, who has been investigating the MPSC scam since 2003 as part of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB), was transferred to the police control room on May 6. The application has been filed in an ongoing PIL on the investigations in the MPSC scam.
