CHANDIGARH: Three years after the Punjab police busted a kidney sale racket based in Amritsar, the same gang members have surfaced again in Jalandhar where the police arrested three of them on Thursday.

The key accused Chandan who was out on bail in connection with the Amritsar kidney racket, has built another network in Jalandhar, allegedly in connivance with the same group of doctors, who are facing trial in Amritsar.

SSP Ishwar Singh told DNA that the police have questioned SPS Grover, owner of a private hospital in Jalandhar and seized its entire records.

The Punjab government has cancelled the licence of the Jalandhar hospital for conducting kidney transplants. Incidentally, this was the only hospital in Punjab where kidney operations were being done. The SSP said the modus operandi of the gang is simple.

Daily wagers, mostly from UP and Bihar are allured by middlemen to sell their kidney for prices ranging from Rs15,000 to Rs20,000, whereas the recipients are charged upto Rs50,000 to Rs 75,000.
