Dr Pratima Kesarkar wins Young Scientist Award

Dr Pratima Kesarkar of the National Institute of Oceanography here, has bagged the Indian National Science Academy's Award for Young Scientist, for her rich contribution to studies on ocean sediments.

PANAJI: Dr Pratima Kesarkar of the National Institute of Oceanography here, has bagged the Indian National Science Academy's Award for Young Scientist, for her rich contribution to studies on ocean sediments.
 
The award, carrying Rs 25,000 besides a bronze medal and a citation, will be presented at the academy's annual general meeting in New Delhi.
  
The scientist made extensive studies using a variety of rock magnetic geo-chemical and isotopic data from sediment cores of the Bay of Bengal that contributed to the understanding of the changes in sediment supply and distribution in the ocean.
 
The INSA had been honouring young scientists since 1974 for notable contribution to research in science and  technology.
