BANGALORE: Loved a photo on the web? Just ‘tag’ it and share with friends. Not a portal from the West, Pixrat, a social photo bookmarking tool built by desi engineers, has caught the imagination of net users worldwide.

Three techies, former employees of the internet giant, Yahoo!, Rajesh Warrier, 29, Ruban Phukan, 26 and Himanshu Nautiyal, 31, of RHR Networks Pvt Ltd are the brains behind Pixrat. The site allows users to bookmark, collect, and share pictures.

After toying with ideas on web products and services in the “search” sphere, the Bangalore-based whiz kids launched three sites—- Apnamarket, a classifieds site, a job search engine called Bixee, and Pixrat.

“It doesn’t take us long to create something new. Rajesh and Ruban are great hackers and can put together new products in no time at all. What takes us six months to do, probably takes bigger players a year,” says Himanshu, CEO, RHR Networks.

Pixrat has been their biggest success story so far. “There’s lots of money to be made in this area, because Web 2.0 technology can be best applied to photographs,” Himanshu adds.

Web 2.0 is the latest internet sphere where firms and entrepreneurs are building new generation products and solutions.

Having a soft corner for India, RHR Networks launched products for the home market, free of cost. “Sites aimed at the Indian market are for public service. To meet business interests, we will launch separate products for the global market,” says Himanshu.

Their first launch was a free classifieds site called ApnaMarket, inspired by Craigslist which is an international classifieds site.

With the online recruitment field heating up, their next launch, Bixee, a first-of-its kind, job aggregator site in India was timed perfectly. The Internet and Mobile Association India’s recent findings show that 51 per cent of the 38.5 million net users in India use the internet for job hunting.

Despite its growing popularity, Bixee ran into legal trouble for displaying job listings from the job site naukri.com. The case is still to be resolved.

Reluctant to reveal information on the upcoming line of products and services, Himanshu says, “We will soon launch a global, money-spinner titled Palintrome, which will operate in the dating sphere.”

Also in the pipeline are a real estate engine, called Allbhk, and 2bRead, the function of which is yet to be revealed.
