NEW DELHI: Pramod was someone who got things done. He delivered on everything that was entrusted to him. He was quick, dedicated, and he worked hard.

He had an amazing way with people. He didn’t have an easy job as parliamentary affairs minister. But he managed to keep everyone happy, all the allies and even the Congress, which was in the opposition.

I remember how he persuaded President Abdul Kalam to change his hairstyle. He got him to agree to wear a bandhgala suit for the swearing-in ceremony and had it stitched for him. They shared a good rapport.

Pramod would definitely have been BJP president one day. And he knew it. The good thing about him was that he was patient enough to wait for his time to come. When he lost his place as minister, he didn’t sulk. He continued to do his work.

I did describe him as Lakshman. I felt it was not yet time for him to be called Ram, but he was on his way to that position. Pramod seemed to be quite happy with that. He told me later not to change my mind.

I asked him to help me with my first Independence Day address. I was impressed with the draft he prepared for me. He seemed to know what a Prime Minister should say in his address to the nation.

His death is a personal loss. No one can replace Pramod.
