NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday night said it was rushing paramilitary forces to assist the Gujarat government in controlling the situation in Vadodara.
 
"Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over the telephone and has told him to make all efforts to bring the situation in Vadodara under control," a Home Ministry spokesman said, adding that paramilitary forces were being sent to the strife-torn city.
 
Union Home Secretary V K Dugggal has spoken to the Gujarat chief secretary and the state director general of police and has assured them all help in the form of additional forces, he said.
 
Six persons were killed in clashes in Vadodra, which witnessed two days of violence following the demolition of a dargah.
