VADODARA: Violence continued in Vadodara on Tuesday, but police kept the situation under control. The toll rose to five as a youth injured on Monday died.

Violence had erupted in Fatehpura area on Monday after the Vadodara Municipal Corporation razed the dargah of Sufi saint Rasidoddin Rahemtulla Alayhe in an anti-encroachment drive.

On Tuesday, tension mounted during the funeral procession of two youths killed in police firing on Monday. A few shops and an old cotton godown were torched.

“Barring a few incidents, the day was peaceful,” Police Commissioner Deepak Swarup said. “Curfew has been relaxed in all places except for two communally sensitive areas.” Swarup added that police may lift curfew from those areas on Wednesday.
