Suryanarayana’s wife is critical

HYDERABAD: The condition of slain engineer K Suryanarayana’s wife Manjula worsened on Tuesday. The mother of three, was rushed to hospital on Monday evening after she drank bathroom-cleaning acid minutes before her husband’s body was brought home.

Manjula had gone into deep depression on learning of Suryanarayana’s “second wife” Gogula Swapna Reddy, who has claimed a share in the compensation and asked for her daughter to be recognised as Suryanarayana’s child.

Manjula was shifted to the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology early on Tuesday. She remained in hospital as her six-year-old son Satyateja lit her husband’s pyre.

She is in the ICU and will be under observation for 48 hours, her father-in-law K Chandrasekhar said. The acid has damaged her stomach and liver, said Dr Nageshwar Reddy, director of the institute.

Suryanarayana was cremated on Tuesday morning before family members, a few police officers, and representatives of Almoayed, his employer. Reddy, too, attended.

It now transpires that the families of Suryanarayana and Reddy come from the same village and their “affair” was common knowledge. His family had simply turned a blind eye to it.
