MADURAI: Three Election Commission observers who chose to holiday in the hill station of Kodaikanal instead of looking after the assembly constituencies allotted to them have been sacked for 'dereliction of duty'.

The commission acted against the observers following reports of the senior officials holidaying near here, instead of engaging in work in their constituencies.

Those sacked were Amit Jha, Director, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi, posted for Thiruparankundram, Ashwani Kumar, Commissioner of Women and Child Development, Pune, Maharashtra, appointed for Madurai East, and Roop Ram Jowel, Commissioner of Commanding Development Authority, Haryana, assigned for Samayanallur.

A communiqué was served on them in the evening, official sources said here.
