Indian hanged to death in Kuwait for murder

DUBAI: An Indian, convicted of robbing and murdering his employer three years ago, was on Tuesday hanged to death in Kuwait.
 
Shakrullah Ansari, who is in his early 20s and hails from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was among five people hanged to death, the largest number of executions carried out on a single day by Kuwait in 16 years. Ansari was hanged at 8.15 am local time (10.45 IST).
 
Ansari was convicted of murder, possessing firearms and ammunition, as well as stealing money from his victim before burying the body, the official Kuwait News Agency quoted Judge Najeeb Al-Mulla, Director of the Criminal Execution Office, as saying after the executions.
 
Ansari, who had come to Kuwait in 2001, is said to have committed the murder in 2003.
 
He had complained to the Indian Embassy in Kuwait that he was being harassed by his employer, who used to beat him up and did not give any food.
 
Officials at the Embassy said they were in contact with Ansari's relatives as well as local authorities on performing his last rites. They said a final decision in this regard would be taken after consultations with the relatives.
 
The others executed today were three Kuwaitis and a Pakistani.
 
Mayan Mohammad Iqbal Mayan from Pakistan was found guilty of bringing in drugs to Kuwait.
 
Kuwaiti national Farraj Mansour Nasser Al-Rukaibi was convicted of kidnapping, rape and murder. Another Kuwaiti Saad Iklaifeekh Tammah Al-Mutairi was found guilty of murder and possession of weapons and firearms. The third local, Mohammad Mitab Mohammad Qathban Al-Shimmiri had been convicted of kidnap and rape.
