HYDERABAD: Amid heart-rending scenes, the body of Indian telecom engineer K Suryanarayana, who was killed by the Taliban militia in Afghanistan, was brought to his residence at Malkajgiri here on Monday night.

The casket draped in the tricolour was off-loaded from the ambulance and taken into the house as his family members were inconsolable.

Officials of the Bahrain-based telecom company, for whom Suryanarayana had worked in Afghanistan, and Andhra Pradesh government officials accompanied the ambulance carrying the body of the slain engineer.

The body was brought from Delhi in a regular flight.

It was flown from Kabul to Delhi in the afternoon.

The cremation will be held on Tuesday.

Suryanarayana was working for Al Moayed, a Bahrain-based company on a project in Zabul, Afghanistan. He was kidnapped by the Taliban militia Friday, demanding withdrawal of Indians working on various development projects. He, however, was decapitated before the expiry of a 24-hour deadline.
