NEW DELHI: Al-Moayed, the Bahrain-based employer of abducted Indian engineer K Suryanarayana, on Saturday night appealed to his Taliban kidnappers to set him free on humanitarian grounds.

The company said Suryanarayana had no affiliation to any political party, or leanings towards any other government or political party and was "far from being a United States spy".

"We implore the parties concerned to take a humanitarian view of the situation and help us survive this potential tragedy and help us by freeing Kasula Suryanarayan and return him safely to the Indian High Commission at Kabul," said the statement whose copy was e-mailed to PTI here.

The statement said the company could "vouch for the politically neutral stand of our employee" who is an accomplished engineer and project manager.
