Engineer’s wife, kids plead for release

Regional Passport Officer Bala Bhaskar on Saturday visited the Maredpalli residence of engineer S Suryanarayana, who was kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan and assured family members that the Government of India was making every effort to secure his release.

HYDERABAD: Regional Passport Officer Bala Bhaskar on Saturday visited the Maredpalli residence of engineer S Suryanarayana, who was kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan and assured family members that the Government of India was making every effort to secure his release.
  
Bala Bhaskar told the media that the Centre was in touch with the Afghanistan government and high-level efforts were on to secure the safe release of Suryanarayana.
 
He said he was directed by the Foreign Secretary and Minister of State for External Affairs E A Aahmed to visit the family of the kidnapped engineer and inform them of the efforts being made by the government to secure his release.
 
The engineer's wife Manjula is living with her three children in her in-laws' house. Tears rolling down her cheeks, she said her husband, who was the lone bread-earner for the family went to Afghanistan in search of livelihood. She appealed to the kidnappers with folded hands to release her husband.
  
Chandrasekhar, Suryanarayana's father who is more composed said his son was innocent and was not involved in anything. He appealed to the Taliban to release him immediately on compassionate grounds.
The family members, including children of Suryanarayana, appealed to the kidnappers not to cause him harm.
    
Suryanarayana's bed-ridden mother Anantalakshmi said she and her daughter-in-law had a telephonic conversation three days ago with him, and "today we heard about this unfortunate incident."
 
The children of the abducted engineer -- Satya Teja, Anusha and Manish -- with folded hands said they "want their father and nothing else."
