Mahajan had refused to give Pravin money: Rekha

MUMBAI: Pramod Mahajan’s wife Rekha told police on Thursday that her brother-in-law Pravin was cut up because her husband had refused further financial help.

In her statement to police, Rekha said Pravin repeatedly complained of “humiliation” before shooting her husband last Saturday. She told Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasi Mohite that Pravin often complained about his elder brother ignoring him and refusing to meet him.

Police Commissioner AN Roy, however, denied knowledge of Rekha’s statement, saying, “I am not aware if Rekha Mahajan’s statement has been recorded.” Mohite and Deputy Commissioner of Police Santosh Rastogi, too, declined to comment.

Roy said police are trying to get printouts of Pravin’s mobile phone records. But a source said Pravin’s mobile phone records have failed to establish if he had contacted anyone while driving to Mumbai from Thane.

Police are also trying to find out more about an alleged previous marriage of Pravin that ended in divorce.
