NEW DELHI: If Delhi has not yet finished basking in the glory of a ‘successful’ fashion week, there is more good news for its designers.

Impressed by the talent and finesse of some of the designers who showcased their clothes at Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) fashion week, French fashion gurus Didier Grumbach and Maria Luisa, president of the Federation Francaise de la Couture Du Pret-a-Porter des Couturiers et des Createurs de Mode and owner and buyer of the Maria Luisa chain respectively, have chosen six Indian designers to be to be part of the prestigious Festival International des Arts de la Mode et de la Photographie, an international fashion and photography festival, at the Villa Noailles in south France to be held from April 28 through April 30, 2006.

This is the first time India has been invited to represent itself at the festival. Anamika Khanna, Anju Modi, Manish Arora, Meera Muzaffar Ali, Rohit Bal and Rajesh Pratap Singh are the six designers chosen to represent the Indian fashion industry  at the French fashion extravaganza.

Designer Anju Modi said, “Paris is the mecca of fashion internationally. It is an honour to be recognised by them.” The designers will showcase the same collection as they showed at the FDCI fashion week.
The organiser of Paris Fashion Week, The Chambre Syndical de la Couture, will support the FDCI’s initiatives to take Indian fashion to the international arena.

As part of this initiative, Didier Grumbach and Jean-Pierre Blanc, director of the festival, are hosting an “India Evening” in association with the FDCI on the final day of the festival.

Director general of FDCI Rathi Vinay Jha said, “This is the beginning of a highly productive relationship that we eagerly look forward to developing further. It will enhance our efforts to take Indian Fashion forward to the international marketplace.”

The “India Evening” will play host to 800 French and international invitees, consisting of professionals, buyers and designers.
