WASHINGTON: The space agency NASA postponed for a sixth time the launch of two satellites designed to help unlock the secrets of Earth's cloud cover, due to bad weather, officials said early on Wednesday.

The CloudSat and CALIPSO satellites were scheduled to be launched at 15:32 IST on Tuesday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. But thick low clouds settled into the area, and NASA officials postponed the mission at 01:57 IST, said NASA spokesman Bruce Buckingham.

"There is not much margin to get (the satellites) in the exact orbit we want it to be," Buckingham said. "It's an instantaneous launch window -- either you go or don't go."

A space shuttle flight usually has a 10-minute launch window, while other missions have launch windows of several hours, he said.

The launch is now scheduled for Thursday at 15:32 IST.
