MUMBAI: More than 250 students from Rai University’s Navi Mumbai campus staged a dharna at Azad Maidan on Sunday. The students were protesting against University of Mumbai for its delay in providing affiliation to Rai University run degree courses.

“If the University of Mumbai fails to provide an interim affiliation to the degree courses conducted by Rai University, then we have no other option, but to commit suicide,” said Praveen B, a third year student pursuing Bachelor in Business Administration course from Rai University. The students have stated two possibilities through which their institute’s degree courses will receive an appropriate recognition.

“The University of Mumbai may provide affiliation to the courses, issue necessary guidelines and monitor these courses. Otherwise, the University can accommodate the existing batch of students from Rai University to their affiliated institutes. This will help the students to get a government-recognised degree,” said Rajee Sriniwas, a final year student pursuing Bachelor in Mass Communication from Rai University.

The students have threatened to continue their protest.
