‘Trigger was Pramod’s refusal to help him’

MUMBAI: Why did Pravin Mahajan shoot at his brother Pramod Mahajan? Though many plausible reasons are making the rounds, family sources from Nagpur said it was because Pramod Mahajan refused to oblige his younger brother’s demand for “huge money” to restart his construction business. Sources close to Pravin’s wife Sarangi, who hails from Nagpur, said Pravin was going through an extremely bad financial patch.

 

“Pravin started his construction business with funds given by Pramod. But, Pravin couldn’t run the business. Later, he tried his luck with small businesses, like selling tubes and tyres. Again, he lost all the money. He has not been doing anything worthwhile in the last few years. In fact, he was not even earning enough to take care of daily expenses. It was Pramod, who used to send money,” they revealed.

 

Pravin, sources said, was short-tempered and a recluse. However, he had friends in Thane and also in the Mumbai media. He would discuss with them politics with great interest, they said. Though he supported the BJP, he never toed Pramod or Gopinath Munde’s line, they added.
