Bringing a child in this world is a great responsibility. Interactive sessions for would-be-parents to understand the phase of pregnancy and child birth is being held by Sahyadri Hospitals Pvt Ltd. The program is called 'club motherhood' and will be free of charge for expecting mothers and fathers too.

Though pregnancy is a natural process, it sometimes comes along with risks and complications. "Choosing a right hospital which is equipped with all the facilities including blood bank facility, neonatal ICU, 24 hours obstetrician coverage, 24 hours anesthetist coverage, emergency sonography facility, etc is crucial," said Dr Supriya Puranik, Gynecologist at Sahyadri Hospitals.

Maharashtra has already been recorded as the state with second least maternal mortality rate with 87 deaths this year, Puranik added that better medical facilities and understanding of health care during pregnancy will help to further reduce the maternal mortality rate.

"Late age pregnancy, vitamin B12 deficiency and obesity are some reasons for complications during pregnancy. These can cause skeletal deformities and growth retardation in babies with an increased risk of gestational diabetes and pregnancy induced hypertension," added Puranik.

This initiative aims to spread awareness related to the pregnancy, labor and delivery. Knowing and taking care of newborns, feeding techniques and diet tips will be discussed during the sessions starting from July 26 between 2pm and 4pm. Guidance will be offered from experienced gynecologist, obstetrician, paediatrician, nutritionist and physiotherapist.
